More psychologists are exploring online sites and apps just as more patients are interested in using them. Research does show that some technological tools can help when used in conjunction with in-office therapy. Many psychologists and patients are finding text messages helpful for quick check-ins or reminders. Some apps can help track and log moods or thoughts. Web-conferencing and streaming in real time can offer continuity when a patient is on vacation or not able to make a regular session. There are cases in which Web-conferencing or therapy via telephone does seem to be a viable option on its own for some people. But for now, with the current research and with the current technology, mobile apps and text messaging are best used as complementary to in-person psychotherapy.
Once you know what degree level you want to pursue, think carefully about what majors will have the biggest impact on your current career or future job prospects. Different majors teach different skills and have different points of emphasis. Multiple studies have shown that what you study has a bigger impact on future earning potential than where you go to school.
Since the beginning of the internet in 1972, several creative people perceived the potential of the internet for the therapeutic communication. In 1972, computers from Stanford and UCLA simulated a psychotherapy session that was considered the very beginning of online counseling.[3] At the time the internet went public, this launch went hand in hand with the development of the first self-help groups on the internet who were, in that time, very popular. In 1995, Martha Ainsworth had a couple of psychological complaints where she wanted to get rid of it, so she began searching for a competent therapist. Because her travel requirements made it difficult for her to consult a face-to-face therapist, she searched for an effective alternative online, but only found a dozen webpages that offered online treatment for psychological complaints. Afterwards, Martha Ainsworth wanted to reach the general public with her experiences and founded a sort of clearinghouse for mental health websites, named Metanoia. This database seemed to be a very efficient store-room and by the year 2000, this clearinghouse contained over 250 websites of private practices, and more than 700 online clinics where a therapist could be contacted.[4]

OSU has a long history of eco-minded education, and many of the school's current catalog are concentrated in environment-related fields. These include degrees in agricultural sciences, environmental economics and policy, fisheries and wildlife sciences, horticulture, natural resources and sustainability. Online bachelor's degree programs are available in three foreign languages: French, German and Spanish. Other web-based undergraduate degrees focus on core academic subjects like business administration, computer science, economics, history, psychology and sociology. Online students who are unsure about which major to pursue are invited to enroll in OSU's University Exploratory Studies Program (UESP), a non-degree plan that allows them to try out different majors while completing standard baccalaureate courses. Additionally, students who hold a degree in certain fields (such as agriculture or natural resources management) or have relevant work experience may be eligible for the Interagency Fire Program Management plan; this primarily online interagency program enables students to earn the GS-401 fire management specialist credential.

For me the best part of going to graduate school online is that it has made me become more organized and dedicated to improving all areas of my life in order to finish. The students at Regent University receive support from each other and the professors as well as the academic advising staff. It is easy to believe that they want you to succeed. Another positive for me is being able to attend school even though I do not have a permanent place to live as of yet. I have been staying with family and friends since October. I have since won my disability case and hope to have my own place soon. I would not have been able to do this if I went to school on campus. Overall online school has been a catalyst to change my life for the better.
While digital media came into common use in the early 1950s, the conceptual foundation of digital media is traced to the work of scientist and engineer Vannevar Bush and his celebrated essay "As We May Think," published in The Atlantic Monthly in 1945.[9] Bush envisioned a system of devices that could be used to help scientists, doctors, historians and others, store, analyze and communicate information.[9] Calling this then-imaginary device a "memex", Bush wrote:
